Ocean Net Designates Murphy Centre as Senior Chapter

On Wednesday, November 19th the Murphy Centre will be designated as a Senior Chapter of Ocean Net. To mark this occasion, a short presentation and reception will take place at the Murphy Centre from 6:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. Bob O'Brien, Founder/Chair of Ocean Net will present the Murphy Centre with official chapter status.

Ocean Net was established in 1997 and is an action oriented, non-governmental volunteer organization. The focus of the organization is ocean conservation. The mandate is "To instill an ocean conservation ethic". Ocean Net presently has nine chapters, five of which have adjacent ocean conservation areas. The Murphy Centre will be the 10th chapter in the province. The Senior Director in each chapter is a volunteer who leads environmental activity in that area, working to achieve positive attitudinal change.

Established in 1986, the Murphy Centre is a registered charitable organization and the only alternative learning centre of its kind in the province. Staff work with people who have faced many barriers to education and employment, and assist them with finding a renewed spirit of hope for continued learning and employment. Youth participate in individualized programs and services, develop an understanding of their particular learning style, design a career path and outline the steps necessary to achieve academic, career and life goals.
