WELCOME TO ACADEMIC SERVICES AT THE MURPHY CENTRE


ACADEMIC PROGRAMS

Adult Basic Education (ABE)

Designed for adult participants, this program consists of two levels: Level II (equivalent to Grades 7-9) and Level III (equivalent to Grades 10-12). Participants study math, science, communications, career education and general options subjects. There are currently three different profiles in the ABE Program: Degree and Technical Profile, Business-Related College Profile, and General College Profile. Participants will enroll in the profile suited to their post-secondary plans and career goals.

Those applying to the ABE program must be at least 19 years of age or 18 years old and out of school for a year.

High School Credit Program

Involves the same courses, texts and graduation requirements as in regular high school.
Upon completion of required courses, participants earn their high school diploma in General or Academic Programs granted by the Department of Education.

Applicants for the High School Credit Program must be 18 during the calendar year of application and out of school for at least 6 months.

Semesters/Start Dates

There are two formal semester start dates in September and January.
Applications can be submitted to the Murphy Centre at any time during the year.

The process is as follows:

  • Fill in an application form (also available at any of our locations)
  • Include a most recent copy of your school transcript
  • Ensure MCP number is included with application - for ABE, be sure to include Social Insurance Number with application
  • After reviewing applications, you will be called for an interview
  • Upon acceptance, you will be notified of your start date: September or January
